A tax preparer in Southern California has been sentenced to five years in prison for preparing and filing false tax returns. The man has previously been sentenced to three years’ probation in a Los Angeles Federal court.
He prepared and filed hundreds of tax returns that claimed inaccurate and false items. It has been estimated that he collected over $672,479 in stolen tax refunds from the IRS and $80,729 from the Franchise tax Board.
Ernesto Jesus Suarez pled guilty in court in June. As a result of his actions, he is permanently barred from preparing tax returns and representing clients before the IRS in any way by the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
